Canada´s team host – Kenton Sutcliffe

During the Men´s U19 World Floorball Championships lots of people sign up as volunteers and dedicate their time, commitment and energy. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to carry through such a big event. Kenton Sutcliffe is currently living in Växjö and is one of our many great volunteers – he will be the team host for Canada.

What is your connection to the Men´s U19 World Floorball Championships?

I don’t really have a personal connection, I just wanted to help out. So, I applied for volunteer-work.

Have you been a volunteer before?

I have volunteered for many events, but not with this organization before. I am excited to see the different groups of people that shows up and participate.

What are the main reasons you wanted to be a “team-host”?

I am Canadian myself so I thought it would be nice to meet some Canadians and make it easier if we have things in common.

What do you do in Växjö?

I just finished my studies at the Linnaeus University but I am currently working at Izakaya Moshi – a great sushi restaurant in town.

Can you give 3 tips for visitors that will be coming to Växjö?

  1.  Get a chance to check out the Teleborg Castle and walk around the central lakes if the weather is nice, here you will have great photo opportunities.
  2. If you plan to go out make sure to reserve a table. A lot of people will be in town and everything will be busy.
  3. Check out Izakaya Moshi and have a great meal with great service.

Interview with Marcus Puskala

Växjö and the club Vöikers recently hosted Innebandyfesten. We took the opportunity to ask Marcus ”Pucken” Puskala, coach of the U-19 national floorball team, about the upcoming U19 World Floorball Championships taking place in Växjö 2017.

1. What do you think about Sweden´s chances during the U19 World Floorball Championships in 2017?

Right now we are getting a grip about the players born in 1998 and 1999 who are in question of playing in 2017.

As a Swedish floorball team we have the ambition to win the matches we are playing but we also focus on development in order to foster players to the national floorball team in the future.

2. How are the preparations going?

During the season we have had 4 regional camps for persons born in 1998. 3 more camps will follow in May 2016. After that there is a camp at Bosön in September, followed by Euro Floorball Tour in november, Finnkampen and world championships camp. We continuously follow current players throughout the season.

3. What´s your feeling about the world championships that will take place in Växjö 2017?

A world floorball championship in Sweden and Växjö is special. I feel that the floorball in Växjö and entire Småland is on the go and we look forward to spectacular championships.

4. What are your expectations on the U19 Championships in 2017?

With the arenas, the go ahead-spirit and general interest for athletics that the city have, I am convinced that the event will result in a festival in every way.

5. Do you have any connections to Växjö?

I don´t have any specific connections to the city but I have a good impression of the city and it´s people.

Men´s U19 was successful in Finnkampen

On the 7th of February Sweden played their final game in Finnkampen and won against Finland.

The U19 men´s team played their last international match and right from the start their play was successful. In the second period Sweden´s Casper Backby, team captain, served three passes that resulted in goals for Sweden. The match finished with good teamwork between Albin Thurén and Fabian Hansson.

When Isak Stöckel scored his penalty shot he secured Swedens results with 9-3.

Mattias Qvarfordt, Vöikers goalkeeper, was represented from Växjö.
